COVID-19 ALERT LEVEL 2 UPDATE
7 SEPTEMBER 2021
We're back to full strength staff wise and online bookings have been turned back on. Home visits and drop offs of food and medicine in Diamond Harbour (Monday & Thursday afternoons) and Akaroa (Tuesday afternoons) are all available again. You may come into the clinics as long as you wear a mask, scan/sign in and maintain social distancing.
The main precaution we need you to be aware of is if you are vulnerable or need to self isolate or even just keep preserving your bubble please let us know. If you or someone in your household are experiencing any symptoms of respiratory illness or have traveled outside of the South Island in the last 14 days, or have been in contact with an actual or suspected Covid 19 case, or have been told to self isolate you MUST let us know first so we can take the necessary precautions. We've got good at limiting face to face contact over the past few weeks and we can still use video chat options or even the good old fashioned phone rather than you coming in with your pet. Obviously there are limitations with this, but it can be a good option. Call to book an appointment time to connect with us remotely. A consultation fee will apply for all remote/phone/email consultations, and medications can be left outside the clinics. If you need to bring your animal to us you may still choose to hand your pet over to us outside the clinic and we can bring it in to be examined.
Kia kaha, stay safe and be kind. We're stronger together!
We aim to provide personal caring service for all creatures great and small. We believe prevention is better than cure, so we are proactive in offering primary health services; animal health planning for all species, targeted vaccination, internal and external parasite control programs, correct nutrition, de sexing, and prophylactic dental treatment among others. We also know the Peninsula is unique and isn’t comfortable with the “one size fits all” approach, so we try to be flexible in our thinking. We are a Christian business and strive to be ethical and honest.
Little River: We are open weekdays 9am till 5pm (from 8.30am for drop offs and collections, and non-prescription sales) , and Saturday mornings 10am till 12 noon. We also do farm and house calls. We provide an emergency service after hours for our registered clients.
Diamond Harbour: We are open weekday afternoons from 1pm till 5pm
Our vets are in Akaroa on Tuesday afternoons, and Diamond Harbour on Monday and Thursday afternoons. House calls along the way on these days are free for mileage, and large animal calls en route on these days are only charged mileage at half rates (shared travel). We can also deliver or drop off pet foods and animal health products along the way.
Click here for your online portal to book appointments, view invoices, statements and vaccination records as well as update your and your animal's details. Helpful hint: If you are an existing customer setting up a new portal enter your name(s) exactly as they appear on our invoices or statements so the booking system is able to find you. Even If it doesn't, set up the portal and make your booking. We will merge it later with your existing account and feel free to remind us to do this if we forget!
Dr Paul Williams is our senior veterinarian. He qualified from Onderstepoort, Pretoria, in South Africa in 1991. He has worked as a mixed species practitioner on Banks Peninsula since 2005, and is proud to offer the people and animals of this very special part of the world a choice in veterinary service providers. Paul grew up on a peninsula, and so feels very much at home on this one. He enjoys the work and lifestyle here and is committed to staying and serving the needs of his community.
Dr India Martin qualified from Cambridge, England in 2011 and has worked the majority of her career on the South Island, Her passion is farming, she and Paul both live on lifestyle blocks so between them own and interact on a daily basis with most of the species we work with here. She is focusing on delivering an excellent service to farmers and lifestylers.
Heather Williams has brought her formidable planning and business skills to the mix. She was practice manager for Paul’s Cape Town clinic as well as serving as chairperson, treasurer, secretary and member of many Little River community organizations. You can see some of her jewellery and hand woven scarves at the Little River Craft Station.
Jo Stuart has worked as receptionist, sales person, animal care giver and theatre assistant to mention just a few of her many veterinary roles on the Peninsula since 2004. She knows most of the veterinary clients, products and suppliers, so is a wealth of information and advice.
Dionne Fossey is an important member our team to help look after you and your animals. Dionne has many years' experience in the veterinary profession and many of you will know her from Little River's Challenge garage.
Sandy Meek, a qualified veterinary nurse is running our Diamond Harbour clinic for us, and also helps out in Little River a few mornings a week.
Tara Sutherland, another qualified veterinary nurse and our specialist baby animal and bird rearer has taken on a full time position at the local school. She has started the Little River Dogstay and provides dog boarding facilities on Bayleys Rd.
Our newest team member (and our first virtual member) is Virtual vet nurse Linda - she's the blue lady at the bottom of your screen, you'll also find her on our facebook messenger. Linda can help with many of your queries or can pass requests on to the less virtual team members. Please note for all remote veterinary opinions (phone/video/email/message there may be a small charge)
We all live locally, serve locally and are active in our community.
We are now operating from our new clinic building, with lots of space, easy access and parking. We've also upgraded our hospital and surgical facilities, and the cattery is now up and running, and looking great after a new coat of paint!
We are proud to be able to offer the latest in anaesthetic and monitoring equipment to make our clinic as safe as we possibly can.
